Vintage: adjective

Of high quality or lasting value. Of old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance or quality: classic.

Vintage, antique, retro -- I've always had a fondness for old things. Perhaps it's because so many vintage people have been influential in my life! I've been blessed with a life chalked full of grandparents. When I was born my mother still had HER great grandmother. These amazing, independent, entrepreneurial and stubborn ancestors have been a driving force behind what has evolved into Angel Cakes Vintage Bakery. Baking has been a rewarding hobby that I've been able to share with my mom, my girls, and now with you!

The Grandmas and Me

The ultimate mother's day photo! Baby me in the lap of my mom, Jayne. Next to her, her mother, Nancy. Next to her, her mother, Margory. Next to her, HER mother, Harriet. I love everything about this photo, including the wallpaper that covered the whole of my Great-Grandmothers Marysville home.

Great-Grandpa James

James Lewis. My Grandpa's father. My mother's namesake (Jayne Louella). I never met grandpa James, but I adore this photo of him driving a bread truck for Porter Baking Company here in Seattle, 1917. Great grandpa WALKED to the Seattle area from Missouri. We are unsure of how long the trip took him but he arrived in Tacoma in 1904. He met great-grandma Lola at the Puyallup fair and they married in 1908.

Great-Grandma Margery

Margery. My mother's grandmother. I have vivid memories of Great-Grandma Margery's expansive vegetable garden. I remember being about 5 years old when she first taught me to begin boiling the water before picking the corn. She taught me the importance of FRESH fruits and veggies.

Grandma Nancy

Nancy. My mother's mother. I was one of her nearly 30 grandchildren but we shared the bond of being early birds and lovers of breakfast. When I spent the night at her house, we would often sneak out for breakfast and be back before anyone else woke up!

Grandpa Grandpa

Larry. My mother's father. A man I've affectionately called Grandpa-Grandpa all my life. This childhood photo of us was taken after I had an idea for an invention and he built it for me. He's the kind of man who could go into the forest with a knife and build a house complete with plumbing and electricity. Larry's loves include; women, as seen on TV inventions, and lemon cake.

Mom

Jayne, my mommy. This photo of us was taken when we lived in Hawaii, 1985. My mom has the heart of a pioneer and truly believes each day is an adventure, good or bad. She taught me to count my blessings and my pennies! Thrifty to the core, she can remake leftovers of any kind into 19 additional meals.

Kyla

My oldest daughter has picked up my love of baking and is a talented cake decorator! She is also responsible for building this beautiful website. I'll definitely miss having her help in the kitchen when she's away at college!
